It all begins with an in-home consultation. Our expert pool designers have experience in creating backyard designs that blend and compliment the surrounding natural elements. We will work closely with you aiming to produce a personalized proposal that fully meets your vision, scope, and needs. Sending us a copy of your survey will help expedite the design process. Just email it to projects@helmerpoolsinc.com.
After you review and approve the pool design and proposal, we submit a permit application to the local Planning Department. Approval times vary based on certain factors. If you live in a community ruled by a neighborhood association, you will need to contact your HOA and obtain a letter stating their approval of our project. Our team will gladly supply any information the HOA may require from Helmer Pools regarding the project. In other cases, you may need to have a Stormwater Management Plan drawn up by an Engineer. Once all the required documentation is in order, the permit is issued once it is reviewed by the City.
Now the real fun begins, breaking ground with the excavation equipment. Under normal conditions, it takes approximately one full day to properly excavate a swimming pool in preparation for the structural reinforcement stage.
The forms, which are placed around your pool, are precisely positioned at a predetermined grade. They are at exactly the right elevation to allow adequate drainage. Next, heavy-duty structural steel reinforcement is placed in your pool shell. The proper installation and spacing of this steel ensures that the Gunite will completely surround each bar.
Rough plumbing is done immediately following steel installation. Our pool plumbing design consists of 2” scheduled 40 PVC that will carry the water between the pool and the equipment site. Once the plumbing is completed, all lines will be pressure tested to eliminate the possibility of leaks.
The Gunite (structural cement) is a fascinating (but noisy!) step, and you definitely want to be there to see it happen. It is at this stage that your pool first really begins to look like a swimming pool. The concrete crew pneumatically “shoots” the concrete with state-of-the-art equipment designed to improve the structural integrity of the pool shell.
This is the stage that the pool will begin to look very interesting as our experienced coping and tile installers will amaze you with their craftsmanship. Most pools have a 6”x6” border of ceramic tile installed around the perimeter. There is a wide selection of tile that you can choose from. No matter what colors, textures and materials are being used for the project, we will have something to fit your taste. Follow the link to browse the NPT Tile Collection.
The pool deck should reflect the overall theme for the project, including material (such as stone pavers or travertine), color, pattern and design. Once the decking installation is in progress you will begin to see the flow of space and functionality. After the pool deck is in place, you are on the home stretch! You’ll be swimming soon!
Plaster is basically the last step of the pool construction. It is when the finish product is applied and the pool interior is sealed. In spite of the myriad of choices that have come into the market in recent years, standard white plaster has been a long-time favorite for many customers and is the typical pool and spa surface finish. When filled with water, pools and spas surfaced in white plaster create a brilliant, clean, light blue appearance that is very smooth to the touch.
Once the plaster application is finished, we begin filling the pool with water. You will not be able to swim right away until the startup procedure has been completed, which usually takes a couple of weeks. During startup, we will put in the initial chemicals, which will help keep your water clean, clear, and sparkling.
Once the equipment has been started up and the pool is fully operational, our service tech will set up a time to come to your home and explain the process of operating the equipment and maintaining your beautiful new pool. This includes everything you will need to know about routine maintenance on the pool and some troubleshooting tips. You will also receive a set of top-quality cleaning and maintenance tools you need to take care of your pool, as our way of saying Thank you for trusting Helmer Pools!.
